Abstract:

The purpose of this work is to present a case of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) – FAB type M7, identified to a child and to show the importance of immunophenotyping in diagnostic assignment. One year old child B. A. is hospitalized in 1st Pediatric Clinic, where based on clinical exam and paraclinic investigations it was put under discussion the possibility of a malignant haemopathy. Immunophenotyping was necessary for establishing diagnostic. BM immunophenotyping was done and diagnostic was put as AML – M7. Cytogenetics excluded a Down syndrome. Flow cytometry is obligatory for diagnostic assignment. Prognosis is unfavorable because of FAB subtype – M7, age of debut and unfavorable response to treatment.
